Talks are taking place that could see the Dow Jones Industrial Average come under the same umbrella as the S&P 500 index, uniting two of the world’s most-watched market measures in a joint venture, reports the Financial Times.

It seems that this this quite a profitable area. According to the WSJ:

The business of supplying indexes, their data and brand names to clients such as money managers that design funds around indexes has boomed in the past decade, as investors have flocked to passive strategies as well as indexes over single-stock trading
